Pierce’s disease is caused by a bacteria which is spread by the glassy-winged sharpshooter. Fresno County Deputy Ag Commissioner Fred Rinder says the insect is in the city of Fresno, and right around the perimeter, and they aim to keep it from getting outside that zone and infecting new areas. He says one key to keeping it isolated is quick action. Rinder says the response to the spraying is much better now than it was ten years ago.
