Pistachio Research Helps Growers’ Profits

Taylor Hillman General

Pistachios
The pistachio industry is banking on research efforts to help growers to become more profitable.

The California Pistachio Research Board is donating one and a half million dollars to help the U-C Cooperative extension hire a fruit and nut Specialist.
Officials say the specialist is going to work at the Kearney Ag Center in Parlier…and help growers fight diseases and other problems with science based solutions.
The search is now on to fill the position… a position that is a new kind of partnership between industry and government…
There are only two other similar funded positions between the farm community and the UC Cooperative… the California Rice Research Board and the California Table Grape Commission.
