Perdue Hopes Coronavirus Won’t Inhibit China’s Purchase Promises

The recent outbreak of the Coronavirus sparks the question–will China be able to meet its purchase goals agreed upon in the phase-one trade agreement with the United States? The deadly virus has infected thousands of people, leading China to shut down airports and place the city of Wuhan on lockdown. With much of China’s economy at a standstill, the outbreak has caused concern for several industries worldwide. In a media call, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said can’t know the ramifications the outbreak will have adding, “we hope it will not inhibit the purchase goals this year.”
