USDA has issued a final rule which will allow meat imports from countries that have had outbreaks of bovine spongiform encephalopathy – or BSE. It’s commonly called Mad Cow Disease. The disease can be spread to humans from infected beef, but still USDA Chief Veterinarian Dr. John Clifford says the new rule does not reduce the considerable multi-level protections in place against BSE.

The new rule goes into effect in 90 days.
