Low-Flying Helicopters Measure Groundwater in Tulare County

lowRural residents in Tulare County might see low-flying helicopters over portions of the county. The helicopters will have large instruments attached to gather data on the underlying groundwater.

The Greater Kaweah, East Kaweah, and Mid-Kaweah Groundwater Sustainability Agencies are partnering with Stanford University and NASA on a project that will according to, Eric Osterling, the Greater Kaweah GSA general manager, “improve our understanding of groundwater in the region and greatly aid in our ability to comply with the state’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.”

Similar projects have been conducted in regions around California and the nation and have help other agencies manage diverse resources.
