Cathy Isom fills us in about the vibrant flower popping up on a lot of menus lately. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
The Incredible, Edible…Hibiscus?
Edible flowers have long been used in restaurants to add a little pop of color to your plate. But now-a-days you’re likely to find these flowers in many more menu items including food and beverages.
Hibiscus, also known as rose mallow, is a plant that belongs to the mallow family. There are over 200 species of hibiscus that can be found in the warm and tropical regions all over the world and each variety differs in size, shape, and color.
The flowers and leaves can be made into teas and liquid extracts that can help treat a variety of conditions, including upset stomach, high blood pressure, bacterial infections, and fever.
