Making Your Holiday Meals Waste Free

Making Your Holiday Meals Waste Free

So much food is wasted every year. Approximately 40-percent. And when you add that up, that’s a lot of money. It’s also a lot of trash from disposable packaging and containers. Save yourself a ton this year, and the earth, by keeping these tips in mind:

  • Choose foods for your meals that are not packaged. Hit up the bulk bins for grains, dried fruits, nuts and candy.
  • Choose plant-based dishes to help lower the impact of your food choices.
  • Use a dinner party calculator to help you make just the right amount of food for your meals.
  • Offer cloth napkins instead of paper, use real plates, glasses and silverware instead of disposables.

And, be sure to compost all food scraps and other organic materials instead of tossing them in the trash.
