Senate Bill 135, which addresses industrial hemp cultivation in California, is making its way through the state legislature.  At the most recent Industrial Hemp Advisory Board Meeting, Wayne Richmond spoke on behalf of the California Hemp Foundation and the California Hemp Association, highlighting some of the issues they see with the legislation.

“Where we’re most concerned is, there is absolutely no official pilot program in the state and that is hurting our farmers,” Richmond noted.  “Our farmers are buying seed from various places and they are not getting what they intended when they purchased it based on the CoA’s that they’re receiving. So, we’re finding a preponderance of male plants, lower propagation rates, and we suspect that the analyses will not match up well.”

The bill was most recently ordered for a third hearing on the Assembly floor, with the current legislative session set to end on September 13.
