The state Department of Fish and Wildlife is updating the state plan to protect wildlife and it could have an impact on California’s farmers and ranchers.

Department officials will continue working on the plan through 2015, which gives ag professionals some time to have their voices heard. The Department of Fish and Wildlife continues to hold meetings around the state about the plan update.
The State Wildlife Action Plan examines the health of fish and wildlife populations and recommends actions to conserve species and habitats, and promote ecological conservation. The objectives for the update include creating a common vision for fish and wildlife conservation in California, providing an accounting of conservation accomplishments since the last plan was instituted in 2005, stratifying analysis of threats and stresses by eco-regions, watersheds, and marine study regions, and more.
Upcoming meeting locations include Fresno, San Louis Obispo, Bishop, the Bay area, Santa Rosa, Redding and Eureka.
