California Fair Saved

Fair Saved
Help comes from hundreds of miles away to save a Northern California state fair from disappearing. The Modoc District Fair, in the northeast corner of California, used to get most of its money from the state. But that ended this year, leaving the future of the small fair in jeopardy since it would run out of money within six months. Yet things are looking brighter now. The 22nd District Agricultural Association, which oversees the state-owned Del Mar Fairgrounds and annual San Diego County Fair is helping out. The association is giving $100-thousand to the Modoc District Fair, which will help it stay afloat until new money making sources are developed. That gift is going to be matched by a $50-thousand grant from a foundation with ties to ranching interests in Modoc County.
