Agri View: Tariff War

Dan Agri View, Trade

tariffEverett Griner talks about what has been added to the list in the tariff war in today’s Agri View.

Tariff War

Tariff wars. Who knows when they will end. Everybody involved seems to be hurting. Although China and the United States may have started all this commotion, it now involves most of the world. It happens that U.S. agriculture has been most affected.

First, it was soybeans and wine. Now there is hardly any farm product not affected. The latest list I saw included dairy and poultry products.

It is easy to understand when you consider that U.S. dairy production is about 1.4 billion gallons milk a year. The trade war issue has had the greatest impact on cheese. Cheese has a longer ‘use life’ than milk, but, there is a limit. Don’t blame China. We export more cheese to Mexico than we do to China.

Don’t forget chickens. Poultry farmers face as much difficulty as dairy farmers.

So, who knows?

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
