Everett Griner talks about issues that are taking place in Washington D.C. and its impact on agriculture in today’s Agri View.
Well, we are well into 2018 now. And, things seem to be going smoothly for agriculture. I said seem to be. There are a couple of issues that will impact farmers based on what happens in Washington.
First, there is the international trade thing. Issues like the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA. All of agriculture is affected by what comes out of this present movement. But, perhaps more important is the immigrant, or Migrant Labor Law.
A lot of bad things can happen if Congress doesn’t take sides with the farmer. And, the immigrant and migrant labor thing has already put pressure on most of agriculture with what the present administration is doing. More immigrants are leaving the United States than are coming in. Farm labor is already in trouble. It isn’t likely to get any better. Well, not in 2018 anyway.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
