Agri View: Costly and Abused Help

Dan Agri View

costlyEverett Griner talks about a government program that is costly and abused in today’s Agri View.

Costly and Abused Help

I suppose every community in America has its own program to help feed the low income and other families that are nutritionally at risk.

The USDA has WIC. That is Woman, Infants, and Children. It is one of the costliest programs administered by our Federal Government. It is also one of the most abused. But, is it necessary? It is as necessary as the Department of Agriculture itself.

Nobody has said why. But, the number of people fed by WIC is declining. Last year 7.5 million people were fed by WIC every month. Those cost taxpayers just under 10 billion dollars.

The unknown factor in this story is, how many of those 7.5 million people are using WIC illegally? Nobody is keeping records. But, it is an established fact that a vast number of WIC users are involved in illegal transactions. Every month. Every day.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
