california farmHow often have you sat down at a meal and wondered where the food was produced? Can you pick out what is grown in Florida, California, the Northeast, or Midwest? Everett Griner gives us some interesting California farm facts in today’s Agri View.

You know, I thought a lot of food consumed at my house came from California. After looking at a chart of some of the state’s dairymost consumed foods, I would say perhaps half.

I was reading that there are some 400 commercially grown crops in the Golden State. Here are some of the top ones. About one-third of the vegetables, two-thirds of the nut crops, and two-thirds of the root crops. Look at this states ten most valuable crops. Dairy products rank top. Other crops in the top ten are cattle and calves.

Finally, there are almost 77,000 farms that cover over 25 million acres. So, the average size figures out some 331 acres. You know, that is smaller than the National average. It is a lot of productive land.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
