Agri View: Bad Trade Deal for Agriculture

Dan Agri View, Grain, Trade

agricultureEverett Griner talks about the United States leaving TTP hurting agriculture in today’s Agri View.

Well, all 12 nations that make up the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) have signed the agreement. All except one. That one is us. The United States. Our President has already announced that we are out.

The country’s wheat farmers fear this will discourage the countries that buy their wheat from us. It will put wheat growers at a distinct price advantage. It may create a $200 million dollars a year gap. Japan alone imports over 3 million tons of wheat. The advantage would go to growers like Canada and Australia. Big importers including Vietnam, Chili, Peru, and half a dozen other countries.

So it is easy to see that dropping out of TPP would be a disadvantage to all of U.S. agriculture.

Who’s idea was this anyway?

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
