Cathy Isom tells you about the perennial plant that can help you add a little sizzle to your menu. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.

Add Sizzle to Your Skillet

July is National Horseradish Month. So it only makes sense to celebrate this hearty little perennial by finding new ways and uses to spice up our favorite menu items.

The 3-thousand-year-old horseradish plant is known as a dynamite companion to meats, such as beef, chicken, seafood and more.

It is also good for you. In one tablespoon of prepared horseradish, there are zero calories and zero fat.

It can be added to some of your morning breakfast favorites, including Bloody Marys, prepared eggs, and even breakfast sausage. You could create your own horseradish sour cream dip, as well as horseradish mayonnaise, horseradish butter, and horseradish barbecue sauce. Just add just enough horseradish to suit your personal taste.

Check out the Horseradish Information Council at www.horseradish.org for the largest collection of horseradish recipes on the web.
